So... In the very early 70's Rhoma Irama released an Orkes Melayu album, with Elvy Sukaesih, and there was a song called "Dangdut" on it,dangdut was kinda what the drums sounded like in those type of songs, and the Dangdut genre was born.... Basically Orkes Melayu music but faster, more hyper, and Rhoma, bless his heart, he's been doing amazing stuff for decades, has been calling himself the King Of Dangdut for many years, the inventor of that whole genre.....
Well.....
Actually....
There were a bunch of people who were doing that type of music for quiet a while already and Munif was one of them.... Here's an excellent album from Ellya Khadam and her El Sitara Orchestra with Munif.... And this album, in my humble opinion shows that Ellya and her orchestra could give anybody a run for their money when it came to making kick-ass music (in the Orkes Melayu genre)... Don't know if it's my equipment, or the way they recorded this album, but a few songs... it sounds like Munif was singing outside the studio, no, outside the building, on the other side of the street, through a handkerchief..... Very soft I mean.... But shit, hell of an album!!!
